Dial-a-Lawyer hosted by Massachusetts Bar Association

People going through or considering a divorce oftentimes find themselves in need of advice. While it may be possible to find emotional comfort and reassurance from family and friends, finding a reliable expert for legal questions can be more difficult. Hoping to reach out to individuals in their community who maybe in need of their services, the Massachusetts Bar Association will be hosting a Phone-a-Lawyer service where people in need of legal advice can call in and get their questions answered.

The volunteers, all lawyers from the association, will be prepared to answer questions on a wide variety of topics, including those involved in divorce cases such as alimony, property division, child support or child custody queries. These topics are often complex and people have questions about what to expect before bringing their case to mediation or trial. While many legal firms, including our own, offer consultations to those considering legal services, the Bar association hopes to get in touch with those who may have been avoiding legal help or were too embarrassed to reach out before.

While the volunteer lawyers will likely not be able to resolve or investigate problems in full detail, they may be able to help point callers in the right direction, or to help them determine what they need before seeking the help of a legal firm. It may also be an opportunity for those who have reached out to law firms to get a second opinion.

The Phone-a-Lawyer line will open at 3:30 and last until 7:30 on Tuesday, May 21st. Callers considering the line can be assured that they will remain anonymous, and that no fees will be charged for the advice they receive.
