Sarah E. Marston

Salem, Massachusetts

About Sarah:

Sarah Marston is an accomplished lawyer. For the first six years of her career, she was a trial advocate at one of Boston's largest and most prestigious law firms (Bingham, Dana & Gould - now known as Bingham McCutchen) and then she clerked for the Honorable Magistrate Judge Robert B. Collings in Boston's Federal district court for another six years prior to joining Koiles & Associates in 2006.

The daughter of a college professor, Sarah has always loved an intellectual challenge. In her career, she has tackled not only family law matters, but everything from securities and franchise litigation to white collar defense matters as well. She has also studied three languages and still reads constantly for enjoyment when not traveling, playing tennis or skiing with her husband and three children.

Why Sarah Wants to Serve You:

Friends and colleagues say that Sarah is not only a sharp lawyer, but an empathetic person and good listener. She believes that these qualities make her well-suited for domestic law practice. As a former psychology major at the University of Pennsylvania, she also brings to her practice an understanding of human nature, negotiation, and resolution.

Sarah loves being an advocate for her clients, connecting with them as people, and getting them to a good legal resolution that solves practical problems in their lives.

Law Practice Experience:

As of Jan. 1, 2011, Sarah Marston has acted as the lead or supporting lawyer in literally hundreds of family law matters, including but not limited to cases involving divorce, alimony, paternity, child support, child custody and visitation issues involving both parents and grandparents.

She has also played a support role in a variety of criminal defense proceedings, including but not limited to cases involving alleged battery, sexual assault, and drunk driving.

During her career, she has frequently appeared in many district, superior and family law courts, including but not limited to those courts located in:

  • Cambridge;
  • Chelsea;
  • Lawrence;
  • Lowell;
  • Newburyport;
  • Peabody;
  • Salem; and
  • Woburn.

Prior to joining Koiles & Associates, Sarah served as a clerk to a federal magistrate judge and as a trial lawyer in the Boston office of Bingham, Dana & Gould (now Bingham & McCutchen).

Mediation Experience:

Mediation is the process of facilitating dispute resolution through a neutral arbiter - a person who is not empowered to impose judgment, but who is trained in getting parties to engage in fruitful dialogue with an aim toward settlement.

In addition to her experience at trial, Sarah has experience in mediation as both an advocate and a mediator, having received specific professional training in mediation.

In mediation, she has successfully resolved many issues, including but not limited to issues of:

  • asset division;
  • child visitation;
  • child support;
  • cost of education; and
  • debt allocation.
