Property Division Stalemate

Couples in Massachusetts that are seeking a divorce may be surprised to find that even with a prenuptial agreement issues may still arise. Properties and assets acquired during a marriage could potentially cause friction upon separation due to each person's perceived values. These disagreements over property division can cause the individuals seeking divorce to get caught up in legal battles that could possibly go on for months.

It is important for couples to discuss how properties should be divided in the event of a divorce. Dividing property can be difficult. Couples may find that they each have very different ideas of how certain properties should be divided or dealt with.

Celebrity couples, like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, offer us larger-than-life examples of how property division can slow legal proceedings to a halt because the individuals involved cannot come to an agreement. A large number of problems stem from what should be done with properties and assets that are not covered in the former couple's prenup. One such disagreement concerns a property in France that Pitt would like to keep for business reasons; however, Jolie would like to auction off the contents for charity.

No couple goes into a marriage expecting it to end in divorce, but the unexpected does happen, and property division issues can be difficult to resolve. However, having the help of a professional who is familiar with Massachusetts law can make the process move along smoothly. Such professionals are there to provide advice on how best to proceed and to protect their clients best interests.
