Man seeks $400,000 in monthly alimony

Massachusetts shoppers may have heard that in March 2014, a Walmart heiress filed paperwork to end her marriage of six years. However, her former husband has chosen to pursue her assets and seek $400,000 per month in alimony. A breakdown of the list of his average necessities includes $80,000 for entertainment, $50,000 in rent, $30,000 for vacations, $10,000 for furniture. He is also requesting $6,700 for a personal chef, $5,000 for clothes, $4,000 for a driver, $2,500 for a personal trainer and $1,000 for a personal stylist. He is also requesting $2,500 as a stipend so that he can give to charity.

The heiress is a granddaughter to the Walmart co-founder. Media reports indicated that she and her former spouse met in high school and eloped in June 2008. The man claims that he enjoyed a luxurious lifestyle with the woman. They owned a retail center together in California, and he claims that he will need time to get back on his feet financially as he explores the job market. The couple had a premarital agreement that included alimony for the man.

The marriage reportedly hit rocky times after the man alleged that his wife was involved with someone else. She then filed a civil action against him, claiming that he was stealing money from their joint company.

An emotionally difficult divorce can be made even more complex when significant wealth is involved. A family lawyer might be able to help clients avoid unnecessary disputes through negotiations regarding a divorce agreement. In other cases, if litigation is necessary, the attorney might represent their client's interests in court.
