Study shows happiness may increase after divorce

For many people, one of the hardest parts of a divorce is coping with the difficult emotions that arise during a separation. Oftentimes people can become overwhelmed with grief, making it hard to focus on the practical necessities. Sometimes people are fearful about their life after a divorce, unsure of what their future will hold. While the popular conception of a person after a divorce may be a gloomy one, the truth may be brighter than expected.

According to a study recently released by London's Kingston University, both women and men found themselves to be happier after their divorce was finalized. The study, which polled approximately 10,000 people between the ages of 16 and 60 about their lives before and after major life events, regularly found that both men and women were more satisfied after their divorces. It noted that women in particular were more likely to be content, while men were also happier on the whole.

While studies like this can be helpful to show that life goes on after a divorce, it is important to remember that each divorce is unique. Each divorce can have its own distinctive set of problems which can make the process more difficult, but preparing for these scenarios can help reduce the work and stress associated with them.

The way finances are distributed is often critically important for an person life after a divorce. Negotiating fair alimony payment amounts or appropriate child support payments can add to a person's financial security, making their life after divorce easier to cope with. This is one of the many reasons why collecting financial documentation and developing a strong case with the help of legal experts can be imperative.
